What we'll do

Day 1 - 4: Arrival - Plains Camp

Your safari can begin by road or air charter from either Lusaka OR Livingstone driving into the Kafue.

Assuming you depart from Livingstone, your first 3 nights will be at Nanzhila Plains in the Southern part of the park.

The closest true safari destination to Victoria Falls Nanzhila Plains Camp is an intimate owner-managed lodge situated on the edge of the a dambo in the southern section of Kafue National Park.

It has 3 en-suite safari tents and 3 en-suite chalets all of which have beautiful views of the dambo and the gauzed windows allowing all the wonderful sounds of the African night to reach you clearly!

Day 4 - 7: Lake Camp

After 3 nights at Plains Camp, you will be transferred to Nanzhila Lake Camp on the shoreline of Lake Itezhi-tezhi for a 3 night stay at the secluded Lake Camp.

Explore the shorelines of Lake Itezhi-tezhi Lake Camp has 3 uniquely design tented chalets looking over the Musa River and Lake Itezhi-tezhi shoreline. The focus of Lake Camp is exploring the Southern Kafue wildlife that is found around Lake Itezhi-tezhi.

Here, the mega herbivores like elephant, buffalo and hippo are more common than down on the Plains and so the incredible diversity and variety that Nanzhila is known for delivering simply gets broader with the addition of Lake Camp.

In addition to the variety of species, the open floodplains and shorelines around the edges of Lake Itezhi-tezhi make for a stunning wildlife experience.

Day 7 - 10: Mawimbi Bush Camp

Your final 3 nights are on the Kafue River at Mawimbi Bush Camp enjoying the river based canoeing and game viewing on offer.

A tented bush camp on the Kafue River

Mawimbi Bush Camp is situated on the riverbank of the beautiful Kafue River in the Kafue National Park in west Zambia. There are four large luxury tents, all with a private en-suite bathroom. Each tent has a comprehensive mosquito protective netting with a covered veranda overlooking the river for perfect game viewing and relaxing.

The main activities offered are canoeing, game walks and game drives through an amazing variety of habitats and breathtaking scenery. You choose if you want a fast and exciting adventure, or a lazy and leisurely experience.

Good to know

Good to know

Kafue National Park is one of Africa’s most unique wildernesses. It is one of the biggest National Parks on the continent, and its vast size includes a variety of different wildlife habitats to be explored. One of Africa’s best kept secrets, the park has evaded mass tourism and been left untouched and unspoiled, as it should be.

This allows guests to experience excellent game viewing with a rich diversity of wildlife, stunning landscapes and uninterrupted interactions with nature. The park is named after the mighty Kafue River that meanders through it for 250km. It enters the park in the North-East and forms beautiful Lake Itezhi-Tezhi in the south, a natural draw for large herds of antelope and elephant. Other well-known rivers which run through the park are the Lunga and Lufupa Rivers, both feeder tributaries to the Kafue River. The intricate water systems and lake dominate the landscape in the North and East sections of the park where the majority of the safari camps are located.

Kafue National Park is Zambia’s biggest and most established National Park and is easily accessed from both Lusaka and Livingstone, only a 3 to 4 hour drive away. There are also a number of airstrips, including Mukambi’s newly built airstrip, just 5 minutes downstream from the lode, making the park a good option for safari charters.
