From the several interesting neighborhoods of Kigali, the most vibrant, energetic, colorful, and fun is Nyamirambo. The neighborhood is spotted with fascinating street art: colorful murals, drawings, and graffitis can be found everywhere, so it is an excellent place to get lost and wander around the city!

Nyamirambo is often referred as the Muslim Quarter, so is an excellent place to visit the city's two most impressive mosques, the Gadaffi and Green Mosques. For sports fans, Nyamirambo Stadium is a not to be missed experience, that is almost as big as the famous Amahoro Stadium, and hosts big football matches as well.

Nyamirambo is also a great place for shopping and visiting markets. Visit some locals markets to feel the vibe, and if you would like to have tailor-made clothes, approach one of the many tailors who will be happy to help. If you have some extra time, make sure to climb Mount Kigali, one of the highest points in Kigali, in order to get excellent views over the city.

One of the main attractions of Nyamirambo is the food (and drink) scene. Drink fresh milk or Kivugoto (fermented milk) in one of the plenty milk bars, that are easy to recognize thanks to the cow illustrations on the buildings. These milk bars are typical for Rwanda, and they can't be found anywhere else in other East African countries. Cows play an important role in Rwandan families' lives and traditions, this is why Rwandan people like their milk bars so much.

Contrasting the more "modern" neighborhoods, in Nyamirambo the food culture is still characterized by Rwandan snacks and dishes: you can find lunch buffets (kind of all you can eat buffets from typical Rwandan food), places offering snacks like samosa and chapatis, as well as some interesting West African eateries.

The most famous thing to try is the Big Fish (can be found in several bars), which attracts residents from different neighborhoods from all over Kigali. Big Fish is a large grilled tilapia stuffed with different spices and vegetables, especially onions, and is big enough for two-three people. If you don't fancy fish, you can try brochettes, which are meat sticks made from different meat; the locals' favorite is the goat one. Accompany your food with some potatoes, matoke (a variety of banana), and some cold beers.

When talking about cold beers, the neighborhood is an excellent option to visit local bars and to experience the bustling nightlife, as Nyamirambo is the place where the party goes on every night from Monday to Sunday. The bars are usually painted colorfully (usually blue, red, or yellow) with the colors and logos of the different beer brands, so it is very easy to recognize them. Residents of Nyamirambo are famously open and up for fun in Kigali, so it is very easy to make friends and learn about the local culture when visiting these bars!
