DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY 1: CAMPING IN THE MOGOTLHO AREA OF KHWAI CONCESSION AREA

Dumela / Hello! Welcome to Botswana!” We will be there to give you a warm Botswana welcome when you touch down at Maun Airport. The exact departure time from Maun Airport to Khwai Concession Area will be advised closer to the time, as this depends on commercial airlines flight schedules, while meeting our guide to discuss the safari.

We depart from Maun in our safari vehicle to Khwai, driving time varies a bit depending on the condition of the road, and it usually takes an hour before you start viewing game.

MAIN DESTINATION: Khwai Concession Area

DAY 2: EXPLORE KHWAI CONCESSION WILDLIFE & MOKORO EXCURSION

You will be woken up at about 5.30am to watch the sunrise; a continental breakfast will be ready for you in the main area. Today you will be guided by our expert driver guide who knows all the areas to find wildlife and birds on your full day adventure. Explore the bush until you find a spot you would like to have a picnic lunch while watching big cats. This can be truly exhilarating!

You will also experience a 2½-hour mokoro trip, discovering channels and lagoons at a relaxed pace in a traditional dug-out canoe.

DAY 3: INTO THE WILD OF AN ACTION PACKED SAFARI TRIP IN XINI LAGOON

The sounds of the bush will wake you up as well as the smell of the freshly brewed coffee. While enjoying a cup of coffee and some biscuits, your guide and chef will prepare a delicious breakfast, to fuel you for the exciting day then head to the West onto the open plains of the "Black Pools" area for some hours game viewing drive en-route to camp. Our guide will choose a good shady place to stop and set up our picnic lunch. This area boasts some classic seasonal and permanent swamp landscapes and is a good area in which to view Cheetah, Buffalo and Wild dogs.

The Moremi/ Khwai Concession area covers much of the Okavango Delta and combines permanent water with drier areas, which create some startling and unexpected contrasts. Some prominent geographical features of the Reserve are Chiefs Island and the Moremi Tongue. Moremi is the home to nearly 500 species of birds ( from water birds to forest dwellers) and a vast array of other species of wildlife, including buffalo, giraffe, lion, cheetah, hyena, zebra, leopard, impalas, red lechwe and African Wild dog.

DAY 4: INDULGE IN TRANSIT DAY GAME VIEWING SAFARI EN-ROUTE TO MAUN

We will pack up camp and leave Moremi and Khwai Concession behind. We head back to Maun where a picnic lunch will be served en-route. You will arrive in Maun around afternoon for optional Delta Helicopter flight and your guide will help you with booking arrangements.

DAY 5: SALT PANS OVERNIGHT/SLEEP UNDER THE STARS- MAKGADIKGADI SALT PAN & MEERKATS ADVENTURE

After breakfast we head off to Gweta and arrive in time for our next adventure of lifetime. In the morning around mid day we visit a primary school with our donations and later after lunch depart with our 4x4 Safari vehicles into Ntwetwe Salt Pan and our first stop is at colony of Meerkat, who live on the edge of the Ntwetwe salt pan. After interacting with yhe Meerkats we head off camp ground and dinner in the Pans, sitting around the camp fire and you sleep under the stars, bedding is provided. A real adventure!

DAY 6: OFF TO MAKGADIKGADI SALT PAN AND INTERACT WITH PEACEFUL ELEPHANTS AT ELEPHANT SANDS

Full of impressions of African nature we depart Maun to Nata. From there we make our way to Elephant Sands, across Motopi, past the Nxai Pan Park, the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park and via Gweta. In the afternoon we will do a nature drive with a 4×4 vehicle across the surrounding pan area, with a magnificent view into the great distance. In the rainy season, when the pan holds water, this is an important breeding ground for birds.

DAY 7: BOAT SAFARI IN CHOBE NATIONAL PARK

This morning you get to do the morning bush walk with a professional guide. Learn about the fascinating uses of native plants and find out how to identify animal tracks. On foot you will smell, hear, feel and experience the bush in a unique way!

We travel further north through Kazuma Forest where you will likely see herds of elephants, rare antelopes and occasionally lion, hyena and wild dog.

You will have time to chill out and late afternoon you will go on an exciting sunset river safari that will take you into Chobe National Park and its rich and abundant wildlife.

DAY 8: MAGNIFICENT VICTORIA FALLS

We start with and early morning coffee or tea and biscuits followed by a riveting game drive into the Chobe National Park and then after our game drive we enjoy a hearty breakfast.

We then depart for Victoria Falls into Zimbabwe. It is a short drive to the border and your hotel in Victoria Falls. After lunch you will head off to the amazing Victoria Falls which is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The waterfall is 1700 meters ( 1.1 mile) wide, of which 1300 meters is on the Zimbabwean side including the main falls.

DAY 9: SMOKE THAT THUNDER & SUNSET DINNER CRUISE

In the morning, put your feet up and relax or you can make use of the hourly courtesy shuttle to Victoria Falls town down to the local craft market where you can bargain for the iconic local soapstone carvings, masks, jewellery, and Batik fabric or to take part in optional activities. You can enjoy adventures such as helicopter flights, micro lighting, Bungee Jump, White Water rafting and many more.

Late afternoon we will do a sunset dinner cruise on the 4th largest river in Africa ( Zambezi River), which has national parks on both the Zambian and Zimbabwean sides. All soft drinks, wine, beer and dinner are included in the cruise.

DAY 10: ON LAST SUNRISE & HOMEWARD BOUND

After a good night’s sleep you will awake to a vibrant, fresh breakfast with a freshly brewed pot of hot coffee and enjoy your last breakfast in Smoke That Thunder and enjoy the scenery surrounding the lodge one last time. You will squeeze in a morning sunrise photo over the falls before your transfer to the airport for your onwards travel arrangements. What an adventure. Let's do it! Ok maybe not right now, but we know will be back again. It gets everyone.

Accommodation: Serviced Camping in en-suite tents and lodges on a mobile safari

Safari Camp Life:

  • On safari your camp staff attend to your comfort by erecting and dismantling the camp and preparing delicious meals cooked on an open fire.

A serviced safari has walk in ensuite meru style tents complete with your own bucket shower and bush loo, staff who prepare delicious meals throughout your safari and a camp assistant to take care of all camp duties.

What you will do on safari:

  • This safari encompasses the diverse Okavango & Moremi eco-systems, Makgadikgadi Salt Pan and Chobe. Your days on safari are focused predominantly on game drives exploring amazing wildlife and birdlife areas however the safari will include a one hour scenic flight over the Okavango Delta. When in the Khwai area a 2 hour mekoro excursion is included.

Booking This Safari:

  • Book this safari as part of a small group of maximum 6 guests or book the entire departure as a private safari for families, honeymooners or special interests.

A private vehicle and guide is available on any of our scheduled safaris subject to availability which enables you to share the camp with others but you have the exclusive use of your own private vehicle and guide.

What to bring

  • Safari Packing Guide: - When travelling on a mobile safari, luggage must be compact, light and easy to pack into the trailer. Each guest is strictly limited to 20kg of luggage in a soft carrier bag and an additional small day bag plus limited camera equipment. We suggest you bring the following: - Good quality flashlight and spare batteries/bulbs - Camera with spare batteries, film or memory cards - Good quality pair of binoculars (8×30 or better) - Fleece or sweater and a warm jacket for colder winter nights (July – Aug) - Beanies, scarf and gloves for the cold early morning game drives in winter – it can reach 0˚C - Sun block, lip balm, sunglasses, hat, swimsuit, insect repellent and mala ria prophylaxis - Toiletries and any medications

Cancellation and refund

The booking fee ($45.00 p.p. included in the displayed price) is non-refundable if you cancel your booking. If a local cancels a booking or does not show up at the agreed time and place, you receive a full refund of the booking fee.
